The capitol since 1792, the State House is New Jersey's most historic
public building. Today it houses the executive and legislative branches
of government, includes magnificently restored chambers and is a "must
see" for anyone interested in civics and architecture. One-hour
guided tours take place on days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays) when
the Legislature does not meet. Groups of over ten and all school groups
require advance reservations.
THE OLD BARRACKS MUSEUM

The Old Barracks was built in 1758 and offers costumed "first
person" interpretive history programs that involve visitors with
the important ideas and events of 1777 New Jersey. The newly restored
building features a changing exhibition gallery and gift shop that sells
books and colonial-era items.
TRENTON WAR MEMORIAL THEATER

Trenton War Memorial Theater, the state's official monument to all
New Jerseyans who served in the Armed Forces of the United States, was
built in 1930 and is widely known as a center for the performing arts.
An architectural treasure listed on the National Register and the State
Register of Historic Sites, the War Memorial was reopened in 1999 by
the State of New Jersey following a $35-million restoration and renovation.
Tours of the building are free but must be arranged in advance.

TRENTON BATTLE MONUMENT

Designed by John H. Duncan, architect of President Grants Tomb,
and dedicated in 1893, the monument is a triumphal column of granite
148 feet high which marks the place where George Washington placed the
artillery for the Battle of Trenton. Three cast bronze plaques, two
by Thomas Eakins and one by Karl Niehaus, depict Washingtons army
crossing the Delaware, the opening of the Battle of Trenton, and the
surrender of the Hessians. Call for current visiting hours.
